Miller and Tom Elliott.
LETTER TO HCMC The contents of the letter from Jim Saysell which was distributed
at the July meeting has been put on the agenda for the Committee meeting
on 14th October.
TREASURER'S REPORT The treasurer has identified an error in the balance
sheet produced at the AGM. It is a clerical error and does not affect
the cash amounts stated. A revised balance sheet has now been placed with
the minutes of the 2008 AGM.
LOCH NESS RALLY - 2009 Following a visit to Neil Hampton at Fairways Leisure
Centre, Inverness the car park and facilities were found to be suitable
for next year's rally. This has now been booked and further discussions
will take place early in 2009.
An offer of a couple hundred pounds worth of gift vouchers has been received
from Tom Adamson Motorcycles, Elgin to assist with the rally raffle. Tom
Adamson requested that some of the profit raised from the raffle be donated
to charity by the HCMC.
PHOTO COMPETITION All photos for judging in relation to the Chairman's
Challenge should be handed in at the December club meeting.
CHAIRMAN'S CHALLENGE Only three members are expected visit all destinations.
It is planned to change the system for 2009 and to have the list prepared
earlier in the year.
TREASURE HUNT Assembly on Sunday 12th October will be at Tesco Extra,
at Inverness Retail Park, leaving at 10.30a.m. Soup and a roll will be
served on completion of the hunt. Though response was low, the event will
go ahead as planned.
CHRISTMAS MEAL There was a choice of venue and menu. After considering
the options the majority voted for Fairways on Tuesday 9th December. Names
will be required for the November meeting. Contact Neil Ellison.
CHRISTMAS CARDS A brochure has been received from Pete Wilford Cartoons,
with a selection of sketches of a variety of vehicles and motorcycles,
which have been prepared as Christmas Cards. There was little support
from the meeting to purchase these.
MOTORCYCLE MANUALS A booklet was prepared in 2007, but it is felt that
there are numerous others within the club who have access to more manuals.
If you are interested in adding to the list and sharing information, please
contact the secretary with details.
CLUB HISTORY It is hoped to update the booklet produced in 2003 to include
the past five years. It will be available to each new member on joining.
STICK ON BADGES Fablon badges for car windows, are available at a cost
of £30 per 100. Neil is to get a sample so that the 'Helmet &
Goggles' can be reproduced for sale to members.
E-MAIL FROM AMERICA After checking the HCMC website, an American, John
Lingley and his mate, are planning a trip to the Highlands of Scotland
in Spring 2009. They are hoping to buy or rent British Classic Bikes for
the tour and are enquiring if this is possible and if the Club could assist.
Some firms operate an escorted tour only and the insurance may be a problem.
Neil is to make contact and will update the club.
NEWS Neil has learned that the Royal Enfield Bullet which has been produced
in India since 1955 is to be subjected to emissions control. At present
only a few which will beat the control are available for sale at £2,495.

SUGGESTIONS FOR CLUB EVENTS A Burn's Supper in January was proposed but
there was no support. Due to the arrangements involved it was scrapped.
Trip to the Motorcycle Museum and Triumph Factory This received some real
interest and would involve the hire of a small bus and a three night stay
in the vicinity of the destinations. This idea will be explored further
if sufficient interest is forthcoming.
Night of Indoor Games This was suggested as an alternative to the Ten
Pin Bowling which has lost support over the years. It will require about
20 persons to make it worthwhile.
NEW MEMBERS Ralph Hart, Evanton and Nigel Beresford, Forres have joined
the club. Joseph Marello, Beauly has applied for membership.
CLUB RUN Andy Watt reported on the run which was held on Saturday 27th
September. Five bikes assembled at Nairn Harbour in lashing rain. After
a short visit to Dave Bowie at Bikes & Bits for team and cakes, only
four left on the run through Glenferness to Carrbridge where there was
a welcome break at the café. On a 3 - 1 vote they agreed to continue
in continuous rain to Newtonmore for visits to the Waltzing Waters and
the Highland Folk Museum. The return was by Carrbridge where they separated
to head for home.
ALFORD CONVENTION John Fulton attended in dry weather hoping to find message
bike among the stalls. There was more motorcycle parts and less Bric a
Brac this year. A James Cadet was on offer at £500 and a Villiers
250 at the same price. The event was well attended.
GRANTOWN MOTORMANIA Tom Elliott reported that there was 270 entries, an
increase of 50 from 2007. Though dry, the sky was overcast all day. There
are plans to relocate the area for motorcycles to a better location for
2009. The fact that the full name and address of entrants was printed
on the programme was not thought to be a good idea, as all other events
give only the name and town.
CLEARANCE Mike Fabling is offering free of charge, parts of his garage
storage system :-
Six 3ft X 2ft white metal wall storage panels; About 150 plastic storage
bins of various sizes, sound but have been in workshop use. Contact Mike
at Beauly 01463. 782085
MAGAZINES Tom Elliott had a bundle of 'Roadholder Magazines' (Norton)
which he gave for distribution to anyone interested.
RESTORATIONS An advert is included in Old Bike Mart by Inverness Classic
Motorcycle Restorations which is operating from the old school at Dochgarroch.
(about 6 miles from Inverness on the A.82)
ENTERTAINMENT The Club were fortunate to have as a speaker, Kevin Morrison
of KDM Motorcycle Training, Balmakeith, Nairn. He informed the meeting
of the Compulsory Basic Training programme for learner riders explaining
correct clothing, bike familiarity, manoeuvring, off-road riding, road
signs and hazards and the two hour roadcraft run. The Club thanks Kevin

Minutes of HCMC Meeting held at the Chieftain Hotel,
Inverness on Tuesday 2nd September 2008 at 8.00 p.m.
PRESENT 24 members.
APOLOGIES George Christie, Alan Hopkins, Paul Marrs, Geoff Hanson,
Ronnie Alexander.
MINUTES of meeting held on 5th August were read and approved by
Neil Ellison and Bert McKay.
ARIEL MOTORCYCLE Reg GSV 188 This bike has now been bought by Jim
Saysell.
THURSO TRIP The date being considered for this weekend trip was
27th-28th September. This clashed with the monthly Club Run and
the Alford Convention. As there was insufficient support for this
event it has now been cancelled. As the majority of members who
attend Club Runs were present, it was also agreed to hold the September
Club Run on SATURDAY 27th September.
CLUB RUN TO PLOCKTON 5 machines assembled at Inverness but before
leaving, Richard McIntosh's BSA sprung a serious leak in the petrol
tank. He returned home to exchange it for his Triumph while four
headed for Maryburgh Roundabout to meet with Bert. When they eventually
got to Achnasheen Richard joined them. It was overcast but they
were dry when they reached Plockton where the aroma of fish &
chips was too strong to ignore. While there, another three bikes
which had left later joined to make a total of nine. After a short
break everyone left for Kyle where, apart from one, they all filled
up with fuel. On the homeward journey there were spells of drizzle
and some had a short break at Cluanie. A few miles short of Invermoriston
one bike ran short of petrol. While Neil went to Fort Augustus for
fuel, the bike was coaxed as far as a farmhouse where sufficient
fuel was obtained for the return journey. However Neil's good Samaritan
act went astray, as on his return, there was no stranded bike and
no way of making any contact. Richard apologies for the mix-up.
HISTORIC WHEELS There was a good turnout of bikes at Brodie where
they were situated in a better area than usual. The weather was
dull but remained dry until late afternoon, when there was a downpour.
Possibly the best show for many years.
DUNROBIN RALLY This year there was a good selection of different
motorcycles and for the first time it was a motorcycle, not a car
that was judged the Best Vehicle. Donald MacKay, Lochcarron won
with his Rudge.
JACOBITE RALLY This was held on the outskirts of Nairn where there
was a good turnout for the camping weekend with a few riders from
England. Part of the run took the bikes to Culloden battlefield..
BIKES THROUGH THE AGES Nineteen bikes ranging from 1904 to 2004
were on display at Falcon Square, Inverness. The weather and setting
were perfect and there was lots of interest shown by the public,
so much so in that one man was desperate to buy Bert's Ariel Leader.
LETTER TO THE CLUB The letter from Jim Saysell, which was circulated
at the August club meeting, has resulted in a large response by
phone and in writing. Several members are concerned about the effects
of the remarks. The contents of the letter will be on the agenda
of the next Committee Meeting.
SIXTY YEARS OF SCOTTSH ROAD RACING A DVD has been loaned to the
club by a member. As it portrays racing at the Isle of Man and Sand
Racing at St Andrews, it will be used as entertainment at a future
club meeting when facilities are available.
NEW MEMBERS Ralph Hart, Evanton and Nigel Beresford, Forres have
applied for membership of the club.
