Minutes of HCMC meeting at the Chieftain Hotel, Inverness on Tuesday 6th July 2010 at 8.00pm
PRESENT: 17 Members.
APOLOGIES: Andy Watt, Bert McKay, Peter Home & Brian Oakley.
PREVIOUS MEETING TOPICS: The Chairman read out the topics from the minutes for the 1st June 2010.
MATTERS ARISING
LOCH NESS RUN: There will be a post LNR committee meeting on the 13th July at 8pm, all those who took part and wish to comment are welcome to attend.
NEW LOCATION: Due to new 24 hour parking restrictions in Millburn Road, and are being imposed, members were asked if it is time to look for a different venue for the monthly meetings. After a brief discussion it was decided to stay at the Chieftain as long as car-parking close by was still available.
NEW BUSINESS
LONG TIME MEMBER: The Chairman mentioned that after a long illness, long time member Bill Price had passed away today, a card will be sent with the clubs condolences.
ANDY WATT: Following his very serious motorcycle accident on the 3rd June it looks like Andy, who has been making steady progress, health wise, will shortly be transferred from Glasgow to Raigmore in Inverness, arrangements are being made to collect his motorcycle from the Spean Bridge area by fellow club members.
ICE: Which stands for In Case of Emergency, club members are being advised to put a contact number on their mobile phone after the word ICE, of their nearest relative or friend should there be a need to contact them in a emergency by the emergency services. Also the members were asked if the club should hold a number for members. One member stated that she kept a card with her details on, in her motorcycle clothing. This was deemed a good idea.
AGM: Indications are that a least 2 new committee members will be required after the AGM in September, Kevin Morrison is standing down and Andy Watt will be away for some time following his accident in June.
PROPOSITIONS: The Chairman is proposing the following:
- That those members who complete a full term of office and assist at the Loch Ness Run be entitled to a committee evening meal at the clubs expense as a way of the club saying thanks.
- The club rule title be changed to “Club Rules & Constitution”.
- The Terms of Reference the Chairman & the Committee have been working on to be included in the club rules, hence the inclusion of constitution.
CHAIRMANS CHALLENGE: Amendment, to gain access to Glen Finnan viaduct, go past visitors car park and turn into the next smaller car park on the right, go down the private road until you reach the workshops on the right hand side and take your pictures from there, as we have permission from the factor, the amendment to the old road bridge on the A939 near Glenfenzie and not Candacraig was fully reported in the minutes of 1st June.
MEMBERSHIPS: A reminder that HCMC membership fees are due at the end of the month, membership forms are also available from the clubs web site.
REPORTS
LOCH NESS RUN: Despite a down turn in helpers and marshals on the day the event was enjoyed by the entrants in spite of the weather, with thanks going to Kevin and staff of Mitchell’s motorcycles who filled some vacant judging posts, raffle ticket sales were down again, entries to this years run were down, with 93 entries only 69 signed in on the day. Later in the day there was an incident which involved the police and an entrant riding outwith the display area with no helmet, most entrants seemed to have a good day with a couple of phone calls full of praise, there was plenty of raffle prizes to go around with first prize going of £200 going to Andy Watt.
The Chairman would like to thank all those who donated prizes, especially Mitchell’s Motorcycles and BRC motorcycles for their generosity. Letters of thanks will be sent to all business supporters. During the event a cheque for £100 was presented to Margaret Summerville of Chest, Heart & Stroke, Scotland. The meal was enjoyed by all those who partook, with a special thanks to all the helpers and supporters on the day, which makes the event so special.
WILD CUBS: Three member of HCMC rode with the Wild Cubs from their start in Elgin to Inverness, they were Brian Forrest, John Williams and Neil Ellison who presented a cheque for £ 50.00 from HCMC, at Inverness the riders were met by John Fulton and Panther club members Jim & Ellen who rode with them on to Tain.
ELGIN MOTOR FUN DAY: The Chairman reported that he was the only member this year to attend the event, which was held in Cooper Park, which was wet and had a low turn out of about 30 bikes.
CLUB RUN: Davy Murray reports that the club run from Dingwall to Ullapool attracted 14 machines of various ages with riders and passengers enjoying a fine day out in the rural countryside with the added bonus of a fish supper.
SHETLAND CLASSIC MOTOR SHOW: No report.
AYR SCOTTISH CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE SHOW: Thanks to John Fulton for reporting that the Rowallan Equestrian Centre outside Kilmaurs was the venue for the Scottish Motorcycle show. The event is in its 21st year and was taking place over two days for the first time, with ride outs and a parades on the Saturday, and judging on the Sunday, which regularly attracts around 150 entries and 4000 visitors.
TAIN RALLY/GALA 20TH JUNE: This rally for Historic & Classic Cars and Motorcycles is in its 3rd year, between 15 to 20 motorcycles were in attendance plus Cars, Tractors, the Rally is free to entrants, with a small souvenir of the event.
MORAY MUSCLE GROUP: The Group celebrated the 4th July Independence Day with a car rally at the Inchberry Hall, Mosstadloch, with over 60 customised American muscle cars, cruisers and Harley Davidsons at the event.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
NEW MEMBER APPLICATION: An application to become a club member was received from Tiff Anderson- Kiltarlity, Deb Cummins- Moray, James Elyatute- Forsyth/Lossie and Nigel & Helen Bodiam- Keith, approved.
FIRST AID COURSE: The Chairman has suggested that the club should have two registered First Aiders in its members, to be looked into.

ENTERTAINMENT/ WHERE ARE THE ANIMALS?
Steve McNeil organised a quiz where you had to find the names of 2 animals in each group of letters, the members with the correct answers were, Maggie Nealer, Stan Pyke and one with no name on the form.
